CARLSBAD, Calif. — August 31, 2026 — Old Harbor Insurance Services LLC today announced the acquisition of Norman Insurance Agency, Inc., a Carlsbad institution built by three generations of one family over more than half a century. The transaction closes a chapter written by the Normans and begins a new one under Old Harbor’s ownership.

The agency traces its origins to Norman and Norris Insurance, which Fred A. Norman, Sr. took full ownership of after buying out his partner. In 1975, Fred and his sons built the office at 865 Grand Avenue with their own hands — a building the family would own for the next fifty years and operate from for the entirety of the agency’s life. Among the crew was Fred’s son Bryan, then 17 years old. Fred formally incorporated the business in California on October 15, 1980.

What followed was a genuinely family enterprise. Four of Fred’s sons and two of his grandsons worked in the agency across those five decades. Fred’s wife, Phyllis E. Norman, who served as the corporation’s secretary, was integral to running the business until the late 1980s. Together they built one of North San Diego County’s longest-standing independent agencies on responsive, personal service — the kind that keeps clients for decades, and often for generations.

Bryan Norman, the last remaining Norman family member in the business, is now stepping into a new chapter of life and eventually into retirement. He will continue in a limited capacity over the coming months, working alongside Old Harbor’s team to ensure a smooth transition for every client.

No Change for Policyholders

Norman Insurance clients will see no change to their coverage. Policies, carriers, coverage terms, premiums, deductibles, and renewal dates all remain exactly as they are, and existing policy numbers stay valid. No client action, re-application, or signature is required, and claims will continue to be handled as they always have been. The primary change clients will notice is that correspondence, billing statements, and account portals will reflect the Old Harbor name.

Each client will be introduced to a dedicated Old Harbor Account Manager in the coming weeks. Notices have already been delivered to Norman Insurance customers outlining the transition.
